Rubavu & Kigali, May 19\u201320, 2026<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Health Development Initiative (HDI) Rwanda received a high\u2011level visit to its centre in\u00a0<\/span>Rubavu District<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0while simultaneously earning praise from the\u00a0<\/span>Rwanda National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA\u2011Rwanda)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0for a successful capacity\u2011building session for healthcare providers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vice Mayor Explores HDI\u2019s Community Programmes<\/span><\/h3>\n

On\u00a0<\/span>May 19, 2026<\/span><\/strong>, the HDI Centre in Rubavu District had the honour of welcoming\u00a0<\/span>Pacifique Ishimwe<\/span><\/strong>, Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs for Rubavu District. The visit provided an opportunity to present HDI\u2019s ongoing initiatives aimed at advancing community well\u2011being, with a focus on\u00a0<\/span>sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>maternal health<\/span><\/strong>, and\u00a0<\/span>support for vulnerable groups<\/span><\/strong>, including adolescent mothers and young women.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the tour, Vice Mayor Ishimwe engaged with HDI staff and community beneficiaries, learning about the centre\u2019s integrated approach to health services, education, and economic empowerment. Discussions also explored ways to\u00a0<\/span>strengthen collaboration with local authorities<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to better respond to community needs and promote inclusive, people\u2011centred services.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate the continued partnership and shared commitment to improving the well\u2011being of communities in Rubavu and beyond,\u201d<\/span><\/em>\u00a0said a representative from HDI.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cLocal leadership is essential to making health services accessible and equitable.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Vice Mayor commended HDI\u2019s grassroots impact and reaffirmed the district\u2019s support for scaling successful interventions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0NMSA\u2011Rwanda Commends ToT Training for Healthcare Providers<\/span><\/h3>\n

On\u00a0<\/span>May 20, 2026<\/span><\/strong>, NMSA\u2011Rwanda publicly congratulated HDI on the\u00a0<\/span>successful implementation of a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme for healthcare providers<\/span><\/strong>. The training, which focused on\u00a0<\/span>non\u2011communicable diseases (NCDs)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>mental health<\/span><\/strong>, was designed to equip frontline health workers with the skills to address concerns raised among adolescents and youth.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that this capacity\u2011building session will be a beacon for resolving NCD and mental issues, as it addresses the concerns raised among adolescents and youth,\u201d<\/span><\/em>\u00a0NMSA\u2011Rwanda wrote in a social media statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The ToT initiative comes at a critical time when mental health and NCDs are emerging as major challenges for young people in Rwanda. By training trainers who can then cascade knowledge to peers and community health workers, HDI is helping to build a sustainable, youth\u2011friendly health response.<\/span><\/p>\n

These two events \u2013 a high\u2011profile district visit and an institutional recognition \u2013 underscore HDI\u2019s growing role as a key partner in Rwanda\u2019s health and social development landscape.
